What is this tool?

Ping checks to see how long it takes packets to get from one Internet host to another. Note that it is highly dependent on the connection speed of both hosts (as well as server load, and the load of routers along the way). The tool here will report the time that it takes a packet to go from our web server to the host you enter. Note that tracert almost always provides more useful information. For IPv6 pings, enter the IPv6 address or the hostname preceded by a colon (':host.example.com').

Similar to the traceroute tool, this will help you test basic connectivity for your domains and IPs. It will not trace the path of the packet, however.
